European Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research
| Acronym | EUREKA |
| Programme Owner | EUREKA is an intergovernmental organisation of 38 countries. It was founded in 1985 with the purpose of supporting partnerships between companies and research centres, notably in the field of high technology. |
| Budget | EUREKA is an initiative to promote the international cooperation in R&D, and not a funding programme itself. Therefore, the partners in EUREKA-projects should finance their own activities. The partners in a EUREKA project can however apply for financial support for their share in the project to their national or regional authorities. The eligible type of project partners and costs depend on the available funding scheme(s) from these authorities. A list of available funding schemes, including budget allocation, eligible partners and relevant deadlines, is available on the EUREKA-website (http://www.eureka.be/contacts/fundingList.do). Some regional/national funding authorities top-up their regular funding with extra funding in the case of EUREKA-projects.Deadline |
| Deadline | For Eureka Projects, continuous submission for the EUREKA status is possible, however national deadlines may apply for the application of funding (see www.eureka.be/contacts/fundingList.do). |
| Deadlines for call for proposals within the EUREKA Clusters are available on the individual Cluster websites. | |
| Target Groups | In principle all actors relevant for a successful completion of the project are eligible for an EUREKA-project. If EUREKA-partners wish to apply for regional/local support for their activities, the eligibility of the partners and activities can be more restricted. |
| TOPICS | In short, the application for a Eureka project requires two procedures: |
| 1. The application for EUREKA status: an international quality evaluation procedure for recognition according to EUREKA standards. This procedure is initiated by submitting the completed EUREKA Project Form, which can be downloaded from the EUREKA –website (http://www.eureka.be). | |
| It is also possible to apply for project funding in the so-called EUREKA Clusters, e.g. MEDEA+, ITEA, EURIMUS, PIDEA, etc. These clusters follow their own application procedures (two steps with pre-proposal and full proposal). The website of the clusters are available at: www.eureka.be/inaction/strategicinitiatives.do | |
| 2. Applications for support per participating member state, in accordance with the guidelines of the authorities involved (see list of available funding schemes: www.eureka.be/contacts/fundingList.do | |
| Next to the EUREKA Projects and EUREKA Clusters, EUREKA supports also EUREKA Umbrellas. EUREKA Umbrellas are thematic networks that focus on a specific technological domain or industrial sector. The objective of these networks is to stimulate the establishment of new cooperation projects within their specific domain. Most EUREKA Umbrellas have their own websites, which can be accessed via www.eureka.be/inaction/strategicinitiatives.do. | |
| Eligibility | The project: |
| The EUREKA-label will be granted if the application of the EUREKA status (procedure 1) is evaluated positively by each national/regional funding authority. The following criteria are used to assess the project: | |
| In principle all actors relevant for a successful completion of the project are eligible for an EUREKA-project. If EUREKA-partners wish to apply for regional/local support for their activities, the eligibility of the partners and activities can be more restricted. |
