With a mid-term perspective in mind, we have identified major needs of society and its individuals in four Sectors:

(i) Communication, (ii) Information & Entertainment, (iii) Intelligent Transportation, and (iv) Health & Living. To address

these needs we have defined a joint research program which follows a typical process chain of information, from its source

to its human destination, and which comprises the following Core Competence Areas: (i) Signal & Information Processing,

(ii) Communication Networks, (iii) Services & Distributed Computing, and (iv) User-centered Interaction & Visualization.
