The overall R&D goal of the K-project IPOT is a significant improvement of the overall system effectiveness of photovoltaics modules;  the underlying individual research foci comprise improving the system efficiency factors, the stability and operational life-time of PV modules and an optimisation of the production processes involved.

Following an integrative approach bringing together pronounced experts from semiconductor manufacturing, power electronics, material development and production of PV modules an PV cells, IPOT aims at the following outcomes:

• Advanced Module Technologies: smart new concepts and materials for encapsulations, frames and PV module fronts
• Integrated System Intelligence:  e.g. module-integrated maximum-power-point tracker
• Smart PV Cells: dedicated integrated sensors and module-based monitoring systems
