The Know-Center is Austria's competence center for knowledge management and perceives itself as a point of origin of IT innovations at the interface between science and industry. Since its establishment in 2001, the Know-Center has been developing highly innovative IT solutions for knowledge management. Its specialist areas of excellence are:

• Conceptual design and implementation of intelligent IT services for knowledge work and learning in organizations and communities (e.g. recommending knowledge resources in the work context)
• Conceptual design and implementation of methods for the discovery and content based analysis of knowledge in complex knowledge spaces (e.g. search based on the similarity of documents)

Based on web 2.0 technologies and semantic technologies combined with techniques from Knowledge Retrieval, Data Mining and Information Extraction a new generation of services for the future knowledge workplace will be developed.
