MULTITEL - Research Centre in Telecommunications, Signal and Image Processing

Multitel : R&D partner in Networking, Photonics, Speech, Signal and Image Processing
Multitel : R&D Partner in Networking, Photonics, Speech, Signal and Image Processing
Multitel’s activities include applied research as well as business services and consultancy.
Multitel is internationally recognized for its active involvement in the European Research Area, with one project in FP5, twenty in FP6 (among which eight are still in progress), three in FP7, as well as in the EUREKA initiative and other national and regional programmes.
Multitel develops applied research in the following areas:
- Speech and Signal Processing : development of speech-centric human-machine multimodal interfaces, active real time asset tracking (Localisation of people and objects), multisensor data fusion (Safety Railway Positioning - ERTMS)
- Image Processing : Image & Video content analysis, dynamic scene understanding and behaviour recognition, user-based multimedia content classification, performance evaluation for video systems
- Networking : analysis and development of WLAN, follow-up of the development and standardization of the new Wi-Fi (802.11 n ..) protocols, analysis of solutions in VoIP (assistance to the deployment of solutions, network analysis, writing of the specifications and analysis of tenders)
- Photonics : design and prototyping of optical fibre lasers and amplifiers, passive optical components (fibre Bragg gratings, mode converters, etc.) and optical sensors. Core activity : development of fibre lasers for medical (surgery, dermatology), environmental (LIDAR) and manufacturing (stereolithography, laser ablation …) applications as well as optical sensors for medical (biomolecule screening and health parameter monitoring), environmental (pollutant detection) and structural monitoring (e.g. for aerospace), both in planar and optical fibre technology.
In addition to these R&D activities, Multitel organizes trainings and conferences in order to inform people of the latest technology. Multitel is also the first Red Hat certified training centre in Belgium.
