Lübeck is the focal point of northern Germany’s food industry. Numerous food-processing companies have located in the city. Parallel to this, an excellent infrastructure for the food industry, consisting of service suppliers and a strong supplier industry has been built up. The result is a cluster of industries comprising food processing, agriculture, fisheries, packaging, machine manufacturing, logistics, laboratories and research centers. Twenty-nine of these companies and institutions have joined forces to form the foodRegio initiative. Their goal is to promote the food industry in northern Germany through joint projects.
