GEOkomm networks has set itself the task of improving collaboration between commercial enterprises and scientific and research establishments and of building up information networks between these active members. Its aim is to promote the transfer of technology between companies on the one hand and business-oriented institutions and regional research establishments on the other. Its chief objectives are to incorporate external knowledge in company innovation processes, to facilitate access to the know-how of other companies, and to enhance the competitive ability of the small and medium-sized enterprises among its membership by linking them into value chains.

The network is made up of all the players in the GIS market, notably geo data providers, consulting and software companies, users, and university and non-university research establishments specializing in these fields of activity.

Four core groups (profiles) have been defined to reflect the existing areas of competence. These are:

• Geotainment
