ViVERA is a network of competence supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in which twelve research institutes and universities in different parts of Germany have pooled their resources in order to conduct research in the fields of virtual and augmented reality. ViVERA’s aims are to establish a network of VR and AR design expertise, define new areas of development, gather together existing experience, transfer that experience to new applications, and produce prototype demonstration models for those applications. The results of research by the network members and their partners will be documented in a knowledge base made accessible to the international research community, allowing its content to be utilized by the broadest possible spectrum of users. Technology transfer activities are coordinated by the Virtual Development and Training Center VDTC attached to the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF in Magdeburg. The VDTC also deals with inquiries relating to technology transfer and sets up contacts with the cooperating research partners.
