"The ELTE Cooperative Research Centre of Environmental Sciences (ELTE KKK) was founded in 2004 as a consortium of the Faculty of Sciences of the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) with 12 industrial companies.

The R&D programme of the CRC focuses on three main research areas:

• Development of new waste water treatment technologies (new microbiological and chemical technologies, removal of pharmaceutical residues, study of the degradation of pharmaceutical residues during the sewage treatment, utilization of the sewage sludge for agriculture and energy production).

• Renewable energies (biogas and coal-biobriquette production).

• Study of environmental impacts (biological materials during the energy production, pharmaceutical residues in surface water, ground-water supplies and drinking water, slime deposits and their recultivation, urban aerosols and their effects on health)."
