Center for Modelling the Prothetic Appliances and Operations on the Human Skeleton CM-Picsu
Centre for modelling the prosthetic appliances and operations on the human skeleton CM-PICSU is conceived to develop a research - design - micro production unit in order to assure, in a first step, to all participants (Polytechnic University Timisoara UPT through Mechanical Faculty - Mechanical Department, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara through: Municipal Clinical Hospital Timisoara SCMT - Clinic of Craniofacial Surgery CCOMF and Departmental Hospital Timisoara - Orthopaedic Hospital no.1 Timisoara COT, Technical University Cluj-Napoca UTCN trough: Department of Mechanisms and Fine Mechanics and Department of Mechanics and Software, Polytechnic University Bucuresti UPB through Mechanical Department, University of Craiova UC - Faculty of Medicine trough Clinic of Craniofacial Surgery CCOMFC, Central Military Hospital Bucuresti SMCB) the following services:
1. Setting up as part of UPT of two specialised laboratories: for medical imaging and for modelling, in order to be able to analyse, on specialised installations and equipments, all types of defects of human skeleton and to realise the new projects of surgical and mechanical methods to rectify them.
2. Drawing up in UPT, UTCN and UPB of specialised software packages for processing the images obtained by different medical techniques: scintigraphy, tomography, cephalometry, etc
3. Computerised designing of the skeleton operations by the personal of laboratories developed as part of UPT, CCOMF and COT.
4. Designing of epithesis, their fixation implants, and various fixation appliances by the specialists of UPT, UTCN and UPB with the advice of medical doctors from CCOMF, COT, CCOMFC and SMCB.
5. Development of the micro production activity, for the designed components, in the frame of a specialised workshop as a part of UPT.
6. Conceiving and presentation of 6 doctor's thesis in the fields of: image processing, biomechanics and improvement of the human skeleton.
7. Certification by short time training (1-2 weeks) of the users of CM-PICSU's equipments and services, acting into the Romanian national health system.
The initiated research within the framework of this project is based on the activity, for a long time, of the collective members. So, the project is adequate from the theoretical point of view, taking into account the speciality profiles of the collective members, their professional experience and consequently the high quality of the involved human potential. The presented project of MURC agrees with the requirements of the Romanian health system reform that must assure modern assistance conformably to European standards. It is a very complex field and theirs objectives can be accomplished only by different specialists working together and following the natural succession of steps as: hunting out and processing the skeleton defect - computerised building of bones structures - designing and drawing up of components and fixation appliances to rectify the defects - surgical intervention and rendering back to the society of the sound human subject. In the institutions drawn into the project, there are doubtless conditions to successfully realise the proposed objectives and human and material resources to develop them.
