AFC - Antidiabetic Food Centre
ANTIDIABETIC FOOD CENTRE (AFC) focuses on new technologies for food based prevention of the insulin resistance syndrome. AFC has the objectives to generate knowledge and establish science based business activities related to the development of new innovative food concepts and processes, which reduces risk for obesity, type 2 diabetes and other manifestations of the IRS. The research strategy involves exploitation of the interdisciplinary synergies between competences in nutrition, microbiology, food engineering, analytical and preparative chemistry, and experimental and clinical diabetology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and immunology, respectively. New research areas for food design will be exploited, including the emerging knowledge regarding the relationship between the colonic ecosystem and human metabolism. The novel preventive food concepts are expected to provide new markets for existing food companies and new corporate activities. An AFC Innovation Programme is launched to increase research based innovation output.
