FunMat - Functional Nanoscale Materials – will seek broader applications for nanostructured multifunctional materials. Designed materials, including nanomaterials for the engineering, processing and manufacturing industries, is a major new growth sector. The lead times between innovation and product are becoming increasingly short within the sector and much R&D is called for. The Center will conduct a range of industrial projects aimed at such things as super-hard surface treatments for the next generation of tools, low-friction coatings for bearings and electrical contacts plus chemical and biological sensors. Industrial partners include ABB, Acreo, Finnveden Metal, Ford Motor Company/Volvo, Impact Coatings, IVF, Sandvik Tooling and Seco Tools.
