The Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT) represents the single largest investment in leading edge R&D infrastructure ever seen in Northern Ireland. It combines with the other RTD Centres of Excellence to enhance the market driven, technological capability within Northern Ireland industry and the universities. ECIT is the flagship tenant for the Northern Ireland Science Park. As a world-class research centre, ECIT enables Northern Ireland to take full advantage of the fundamental changes in the electronic, telecommunications and computer industries in recent years. The overall aims of the ECIT project are to: 1) Stimulate world-class research and innovation 2) Create opportunities for commercial exploitation of IPR and know-how 3) Incubate spin-out and spin-in start up companies 4) Develop a new generation of high technology engineers and entrepreneurs
