Top 10 export competitiveness clusters
“It is not necessarily competitiveness clusters with a worldwide dimension, or who aim for such, that have increased the export rates of their members the most,” says journalist Isabelle Verdier (lemoci.com). This Top 10 was published at a conference on international development for competitiveness clusters organised at Bercy on 21 January.
The Top 10, which covers the year 2008, was established by the company CEIS (Compagnie européenne d’intelligence stratégique). All businesses taken together, there are only two competitiveness clusters with a world dimension in the list: Lyon Biopole (1. the fight against infectious diseases) and Alsace Biovalley (6. life and earth sciences).
If we take into account only the SME, there are 5 competitiveness clusters with a world dimension, and only Lyon Biopole remains in the top spot. We can also see variations in export rates depending on the type of business involved in a competitiveness cluster: 24.7 % for SME and 31.7% for all businesses taken together.
